A Bombshell Arrival: The First Roads Revealed Tarot Print Travels the World

The very first trial set of Roads Revealed Tarot cards arrived in the UK all the way from our printer in the USA — and to say I was thrilled is an understatement. Holding the deck for the first time felt deeply emotional. There will be a few adjustments needed, but having the actual cards in my hand after so much time working on the project felt magical. I decided to take them with me on a short trip to visit my family in Europe. I tucked the cards safely into my backpack.

At airport security, I watched my backpack roll into the scanner, expecting the usual nod and wave-through. Instead, the belt stopped. My bag was pulled aside.

“Is this your bag?” I was asked.
The security officer waved me over.
“Did you pack this bag yourself?”
“Are you carrying anything for someone else?”

Each question tightened the knot in my chest a little more. I wasn’t allowed to touch anything. What could be inside my bag that I didn’t know about?
The officer frowned at the screen and then said the words no traveller wants to hear:
“I need to call my supervisor.”

At that moment, my mind raced. Did I accidentally smuggle… what? Anxiety, imagination, and confusion all swirled together.
The supervisor opened the backpack… And there it was: the tarot deck!

Because the cards were tucked inside a fabric bag with a drawstring, the string showed up on the scanner like a wire. The whole thing looked suspiciously like a bomb.
The moment they realised it was a pack of cards, the tension dissolved.

“Are these tarot cards?” the officer asked.
“They are!” I said, laughing with relief.
“Well,” he replied, “my girlfriend has one of those.”
I smiled and didn’t correct him… it’s definitely not one of those!

And so the very first printed Roads Revealed Tarot deck made it through airport security, living up to its destiny:
